"Variable Height" Hospital Bed
- One of the two requirements for a standard fixed-height bed:
- The person requires positioning of the body in ways not feasible in an ordinary bed (i.e., the head/upper body needs to be elevated more than 30°) OR
- He or she requires special attachments (e.g., traction equipment) that cannot be fixed and used on an ordinary bed.
AND
- The person's condition (i.e., arthritis, fractured hip, cardiac disease, stroke) must require a bed height different than a fixed height to permit transfers to a chair, a wheelchair or standing position.
