Changing Bed Pads - Bedridden Person

Please note that this video is not dementia specific and does not include special instructions essential for people with dementia. Here are four key tips to keep the person calmer while you change the person or the bed pad.

Key TIPS:
  1. Always tell the person what you are going to do before you engage in an action, even if you think they will not understand. For example, tell the person you are about to roll them on their side.

  2. Speak softly and use a gentle touch. This can be a huge help.

  3. Don't rush! This is a known trigger for causing agitation for a person with dementia.

  4. Play soft music that the person likes if they tend to get upset during this activity.
